Pediatric Oral Dysfunction Assessment
What to Expect
Baby's oral function is assessed by a dual certified Speech Language Pathologist and Lactation Consultant. We'll take a look at :
Medical History : This will include any relevant prenatal, birth, and developmental history, as well as past and current medical conditions
Oral Structure and Function: A comprehensive oral examination is performed to assess the child's gums, tongue, palate, and other oral structures in addition to oral functions such as chewing, swallowing, and suckling. This may involve observing the child's ability to perform various oral movements, such as sticking out the tongue and moving the jaw.
Assessment of Feeding and Swallowing Skills: This may involve observing the child's ability to breastfeed or bottle-feed, swallow different textures of food, and coordinate breathing with swallowing.
